Join Us for Title I Math Night!
Thursday, October 22 | 5:30–7:00 p.m.

Afflerbach families, mark your calendars! We are excited to invite you to our Title I Math Night on Thursday, October 22, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. This will be a fun and informative evening designed to bring our school community together while helping families learn more about how we support student success at Afflerbach.

We will begin the evening with our annual Title I Parent Informational Meeting. During this meeting, we will share information about what it means to be a Title I school and how Title I funding helps us provide additional support and opportunities for our students. We will discuss our schoolwide goals, Title I budget, School Improvement Plan, and schoolwide academic data. Most importantly, families will have an opportunity to learn how these resources and plans directly support their children.

Following the informational meeting, the fun begins with Math Night! Families will have an opportunity to participate together in engaging math activities and games designed to show that math can be fun, interactive, and something we use every day. We hope families will leave with ideas they can use at home to continue building their children's confidence and skills in mathematics.

At Afflerbach, we believe that Together We Succeed! Our students are most successful when families and school work together toward the same goals. Your involvement, questions, ideas, and partnership are an important part of our school community.

Please join us on October 22 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. We look forward to an evening of learning, laughter, math, and family fun!

We can't wait to see you there!

Nurse's Notes

😴 Healthy Sleep
Healthy sleep is so important for growing minds 🧠 and bodies 💪! The recommended amount of sleep for children of different ages is:
  • 🧸 3–5 years old: 10–13 hours
  • 📚 6–12 years old: 9–12 hours
  • 🎓 13–18 years old: 8–10 hours

Regularly sleeping fewer than the recommended hours is associated with attention, behavior, and learning problems. Regularly sleeping more than the recommended hours may be associated with adverse health outcomes, such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and mental health problems. ❤️

🌙 Healthy Sleep Hygiene Includes:
  • ⏰ Be consistent. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning, including on weekends.
  • 🛏️ Create a comfortable bedroom. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature.
  • 📵 Remove electronic devices. Keep TVs, computers, and smartphones out of the bedroom.
  • 🍽️ Avoid large meals and caffeine before bedtime.
  • 🏃 Get some exercise. Being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night.

Shoutouts

Operation Warm

Operation Warm partnered with TJX to generously provide coats to every single one of our students. Not only were the coats provided, but TJX was able to gather over 25 volunteers to come set up and tear down the event. Each student was partnered with their own volunteer to walk them through the process, ensuring they got to pick the size and color they liked the best. We are so grateful that each of our students was able to feel truly special with a personalized experience and will have a warm coat all winter.
